We meet at the tavern (it is near the port) that Marigold Tealeaf is staying at for breakfast. She is late to arrive because she was out feeding the bear she had freed (Brutus). The bellyrubbed pug.
Our plan for today is to talk to the guards first and then the university. We walk over to the military district to the guard HQ building. The front desk lady sends us over to Rex who is in charge of the case.
He is a grumpy dwarf. We need to speak to Dean Drael Torinn at the university. Reckseth (Rex) Oakhelm thinks the culprits broke in through a basement window but he said he is unsure how the culprits got past the security system. The item was in the basement.
The other case is thefts: houses in the cloud top district of jewelry and art, generally just valuable items.

The witness statements have the commonality of having someone or someones seen in dark cloaks with mist/fog bank at the evening (fog inside and outside of the home).
There have been 7 or 8 houses in total, all scattered throughout the cloudtop district.
We have documentation from belcalis stating that we are assisting with the investigation of the crystal cube.
We decide to go to the university first to question, then to the theater to work on the rich theft case, then to steal the file from the cops.
University:
We go to the admin building and get to the dean’s office.
Dean Drael Torinn (older silver dragonborn). Belvedere does the talking for us and asks about any infor on the cube and the case. He casually cast high level magic and is clearly very good at magic (he summoned some extra chairs for us).
The cube was in a locked research lab. It was for profs and grad students to study the outer planes. It was created several hundred years ago by a member of the pansophacle arcanum. The cube was stored was in its own research room. No windows, one entrance. It allows others to see other planes.
How the security works at the university is that higher level spell casters get access to higher security areas. Arcane gates at buildings and at research rooms. 4th level spell slot to get into building. 7th level spell slot to get into the research room. No wards against teleportation.
Name of professor who is leading the research: Popip Wobbletop. He has been working with the cube for over a century. He used the cube to talk about the other planes and how dangerous they are and how they interact.
Marigold to Dean “what is your opinion of the motive of this theft?” He isn’t used to considering this kind of issue and is at a loss because he is so used to just seeing things academically.
